Personal Statement

Safari in Swahili means “journey,” a word that so perfectly encompasses our experiences in both parenting and travel. Put them together and you have “Momfari.” After all, just because we become parents doesn’t mean we have to change everything, including what we enjoyed before we had children. For my husband and me, that was traveling. And now we enjoy it all the more with our two boys in tow. Relaxing? Not really. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I am a native of Colorado and love living in the same city where I grew up, Longmont. After completing my master’s of journalism at CU Boulder in 2002, I wrote primarily freelance magazine articles until becoming a mom in 2006, when I began honing my editing skills. I enjoy the flexibility of freelance work because it affords me time to use my writer’s brain while also refereeing fights between my two young sons.

In addition to writing about family travel for Momfari, I’m a former Huffington Post blogger and contributing editor for Outdoor Families Magazine. My goal? To inspire parents to get outside and explore the world with their children.
