Kit Bernardi is an award-winning travel journalist, photographer and marketer. She has explored more than 55 countries and six continents during 25 years writing freelance for outlets including USA TODAY GoEscape Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Midwest Living Magazine, Delta Sky Magazine, South China Morning Post, TakingtheKids.com and the Illinois Travel Guide. Kit was a contributing editor for Meredith Corporation’s Midwest Living Magazine, a multiple Lowell Thomas Award winning publication. She edited-authored the first Not for Tourists Guide to Chicago, a sassy, sophisticated, resourceful city guide. Kit’s work is showcased on her website www.KitTravels.comand blog KitChat. She’s a member of Society of American Travel Writers and the North American Travel Journalists Association.
Kit speaks regularly at travel and tourism conferences. Her most recent engagements include the South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Kansas State Tourism Conference, Shop America Alliance One Travel Conference for Shopping, Dining & Cultural Tourism, the Society of American Travel Writers annual convention, Chicago’s Global Greeter annual meeting and Educational Travel Community Conference. Kit has taught travel writing at Loyola University of Chicago, University of Chicago’s Graham School, Columbia College Chicago and DePaul University Chicago. Her company Kit Bernardi & Associates provides clients travel marketing, writing and consulting services.
Earlier in her career Kit was a senior marketing executive at Frankel & Company leading the United Airlines, Target Stores and ARCO Chemical Company accounts. She was public relations director for Hilton Chicago and Hilton’s Midwest Region. Kit worked as a television and radio reporter in Chicago and South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indian with a B.A. in English Literature and History. She speaks Italian. Kit has a Masters in Writing from DePaul University, Chicago.
