FTA Sponsors First-Ever Family Travel Pavilion at New York Times Travel Show

FTA staff, members, sponsors, partners and friends connected this past weekend at both the new International Media Marketplace (IMM) and New York Times Travel Show (NYTTS) in New York City.

The FTA played an active roll in the IMM, a media networking event created by FTA-member TravMedia, and collaborated with the NYTTS to develop the first-ever Family Travel Pavilion, where family travel-facing companies exhibited. The FTA also worked with its members to provide speakers for panels about family travel during both the trade and consumer days, as well as activities for children during the consumer days.

“This is such a great time to be in New York City. While there are already so many travel-facing brands in the city already, even more come in for the New York Times Travel Show and now the International Media Marketplace too. It’s like the world comes to us!”
— Chris 'Chez' Chesak, FTA Executive Director

Families Flying Together Still Have to Pay a Premium to Sit Together

Families Flying Together Still Have to Pay a Premium to Sit Together
In India, as air travel becomes more appealing and affordable for passengers, airlines including national carrier Air India are using ingenious ways to squeeze money out of travelers. One such travel expense is seat selection fees.
As a side note to this: We've been asked about the status of the promising Families Flying Together Act language that was included in last year’s U.S. Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization legislation. As far as we can tell, there isn’t yet a formal law. As consumer advocate Christopher Elliott has advised: “Congress asked for a rulemaking, which can be a long process. Some airlines have informal policies that will allow families to be seated together.” So there’s still a long way to go!
