“I’m certain our attendees will be inspired and come away from their time with Bruce with a renewed approach to their own businesses and vocations, and some new ideas about how to follow in his footsteps,” Jenss said.

Poon Tip founded G.A.P Adventures (later renamed G Adventures) in 1990, when he was just 22 years old, following a backpacking trip he took to Asia. He wanted to bring more local experiences to consumers, like staying in the home of an Amazonian tribesman’s family in Ecuador. Over the next two decades, G Adventures grew sales an average of 40 percent each year.

In 2003, Poon Tip founded Planeterra, a non-governmental organization that helps local people develop their communities, conserve their environment, and provide social solutions to local business challenges. Some of the projects included a woman’s weaving co-op in Peru, a day school for HIV/AIDS orphaned children in South Africa, and the New Hope Cambodia Vocational Training Restaurant, which provides hospitality skills training.

In 2013, Poon Tip published “Looptail: How One Company Changed the World by Reinventing Business,” featuring a foreword from the 14th Dalai Lama. Looptail tells the story of how Poon Tip founded and grew G Adventures into a socially responsible business.

G Adventures and Poon Top have received numerous industry awards for adventure tourism, group tours and social entrepreneurship including being named Canada’s Most Admired CEO, AFAR magazine’s Travel Vanguard (honoring visionaries who have made a difference in the world), induction into the British Travel and Hospitality Hall of Fame in 2018, and numerous EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
