An airline ticket can be a passport to learning a language, indulging in a hobby, polishing a skill or understanding a culture — and people who give a trip with a theme can make a getaway gift particularly memorable.
“My sense is that yes, people are more inclined to give a gift of experience, and by that I mean getting deeper under the hood of a place than the superficial shopping and sightseeing,” said Ethan Gelber, director of editorial for the Family Travel Association.
