The FTA has always been at the forefront in helping us better understand the U.S. family travel market through its annual research study conducted with New York University. Peter Bopp reported that this year’s study was put on ice because of the pandemic. That doesn’t mean, however, that we don’t have data on how family travel has been impacted by COVID-19 and what we might expect heading into 2021. One of FTA’s newest members, JP Morgan Chase, sent Greg Stranz, Director of their Marriott Bonvoy Bold Family Travel program shared their research and how families will be planning their travels in the year ahead. The big takeaways:

  • 85% of parents anticipate traveling domestically in the next 12 months
  • 43% of parents anticipate staying in a hotel in the next 6 months
  • 68% of parents say when their children are involved in the planning process, they become more excited about the trip
