Julia Dimon is a hard-core adventuress, a travel journalist, and TV travel personality who has traveled around the world across all seven continents, to over 80 countries.

Julia is the co-host of Word Travels, a 40-episode TV series about the real lives of travel writers, broadcast worldwide on National Geographic Adventure, Travel Channel UK in over 100 countries and 21 languages. Julia co-developed, co-wrote, and co-produced this show that was nominated for a Best Documentary Series Gemini Award. After a three-year stint with Word Travels, Julia hosted the popular online 18-part travel series, Destination Getaway, for MSNBC. Then she spent four years as a co-host for the active lifestyle morning show “Outside Today,” broadcast on Outside Television network.

Julia is the author of a new book called “Travel Junkie: A Badass Guide to Solo Female Travel,” featuring tried-and-true travel tips and advice for the next generation of adventurers. With chapters on scoring cheap flights, maximizing air miles, using the best travel apps, surviving solo travel and staying safe on the road, “Travel Junkie: A Badass Guide to Solo Female Travel,” is an insider’s look at how to travel smart and beat the system. Practical travel tips are interspersed with uncensored, diary-style confessions straight from Julia’s private travel journals. From the wrestling rings of South America, to the genocide memorials of Rwanda, the gladiator training camps of Italy, to notorious maximum security prisons in Thailand, readers will be immersed in some of the most interesting places on the planet.

Julia has traveled to over 80 countries, in conflict zones across seven continents. She’s trained as a gladiator in Rome, camel trekked the Egyptian pyramids, confronted Santa Claus in the Arctic Circle, eaten deep-fried guinea pig in Ecuador, watched a lion chase a warthog in Kenya, ran with bulls in Portugal and learned to speak Klingon in the Star Trek town of Vulcan.

From the depths of the Great Barrier Reef to the top of Machu Picchu, she’s hiked with silverback gorillas in Uganda, snorkeled with whale sharks in Mozambique, climbed The Great Wall of China, dog-sledded in Greenland, camel trekked in Jordan, slept with lions in the Serengeti, snacked on local delicacies such as silk worm, goat brain, six-inch scorpions, snake blood and severed human toe.

Julia has been featured as a travel expert by CNN, ABC Nightline, New York Times, Conde Nast Traveller, Travel & Leisure, Forbes Traveler, MSNBC, E! News, Outside Magazine, Travel Channel, Chicago Tribune, Budget Travel, USA Today, among other major outlets. She is the Executive editor of Escape Magazine, an American Express travel publication. Julia is a regular featured speaker for the NY Times Travel Show (the largest consumer and travel trade show produced in the United States). She’s also spoken the LA Times Travel Show, the Boston Globe Travel Show, the Chicago Tribune Travel & Adventure Show, the Washington DC Travel & Adventure Show and TBEX. Julia served on the Declaration Committee of Seven Natural Wonders, to determine the 7 natural wonders of each continent.

In terms of travel brands, Julia has worked as a brand ambassador for such companies as Kayak, Expedia, Celebrity Cruises and Hilton Hotels.

Julia has pushed the boundaries of the travel writing genre, backpacking solo through off-the-beaten path locations on a quest for unique stories and amazing adventures.  And now, there’s a new life stage to add to her list of adventures. A second generation travel writer (her mother Anne Dimon focuses on wellness travel), Julia has now become a new mom herself! Julia continues to pursue her passion for travel, this time with a new carry-on item….her two babiesl! That’s three generations of female explorers (with one toddler and an infant travel writer in training). Julia is an inspirational example of how life after children can still be filled with adventure in unexpected places.

An active member of the travel community, Julia has a strong online following, from her social media channels to a popular blog www.traveljunkiejulia.com that shares expert travel advice, stories from exotic destinations and budget travel tips.
