The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged many local economies that depend on tourism. The Family Travel Association would like to highlight what our members are doing to support their communities, both at home and around the world. This is such a challenging time and our members are making a difference. A number of FTA members are doing work through their own non-profit organizations, while others are calling attention to smaller local programs that support communities, charities, conservation funds, and struggling families whose livelihood depends on tourism.
We’ve learned of a few great examples of the work being facilitated by our members. Planeterra Foundation, a non-profit organization established by G Adventures’ Founder, launched its ‘Turn Travel into Impact from Home’ campaign to aid vulnerable communities and released emergency grants to six partner projects in need of immediate help. Big Five Tours & Expeditions is providing food and support to families and communities in Africa, Peru, and Colombia. Through its foundation, ATJ is donating locally to Colorado non-profits assisting those who have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re also aware of members assisting families in need and local charities in Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti and other locations.
There are COVID-19 Heroes making a difference everywhere – and we’d like to hear more about these efforts. Family travelers who have become citizens of the world are often looking for trusted ways to help local communities. Media, travel agents and other members may be interested in these stories from around the globe as well. If you have a story to share about your own work or a local travel partner who is making an impact on their community, please send it to FTA Board Member Nancy Schretter at KidTravel@aol.com. Detailed information, photos and links to pages on your websites are appreciated as well.
